Ears and sinuses and mucus, oh my!

My ears are plugged. They have been for almost a year now. I’ve been to my doctor twice and to a specialist once and I have been taking a nasal spray and using a sinus rinse and they are still plugged, though my sinuses feel remarkably clear.

It started last summer when I was training a lot. One day, a couple of weeks before we left for Montreal, I noticed that after a training session I couldn’t hear very well. My ears felt as if they were full of water. For days afterward every time I leaned over, I could feel liquid moving around inside my head. Pete thought I may have some wax built up so I put in a little olive oil and the next day Matt tried to flush them at home. Nothing. Eric asked me if I had been cleaning my ears with alcohol consistently after getting out of the water and I had to admit that I hadn’t. I began using it every day.
No change.

When I went to my doctor she checked my hearing, which was good, and took a good look inside my ears: no wax, no water. In fact, she said they were spotless. She recommended I stay out of the water (!!!!!!) and give it a few more days. When I went back a second time she took another look and then referred me to a specialist. The ear/nose/throat guy was really interested in our equalizing techniques and asked me to demonstrate frenzel to him so he could watch the mechanics of it; but he, too, was unable to find anything. He put a scope up my nose, took a good look around and said the same thing: no wax, no fluid. He did say rinsing the sinuses may help and prescribed the spray as well.

So I have been rinsing and spraying and still my ears feel full and when I bend over I feel fluid moving around in there.

My ears are plugged and it’s starting to drive me a little crazy.
